Chilean Carlos Chandia is considered as one of the best South American referees. He has been refeering in the most important South-American matches: in the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana, and also, of course, the Chilean league. Surely, his most important match has been Copa Libertadores 2004 Final between Once Caldas of Colombia Boca Juniors of Argentina, in Colombia.
The match was not very violent and Chandia refereed in a permissive way. His calls were generally good ones, but he should have booked more players. Palermo saw yellow card in the 2nd half, and he should have seen one in the 1st as well, so he could have been sent off. The referee also did not penalize enough Libertad players for loosing time in the 1st half.
Libertad was the local team, but it seemed as if they played just for keeping the 0-0 result (which was good enough for them). They waited and Boca was the team that attacked and really tried to win the match. Juan Roman Riquelme played a great 2nd half and scored a wonderful goal opening the match. Then, Rodrigo Palacio put the 2-0. The match ended there... Because of the victory, Boca Juniors qualified for Copa Libertadores Semi Finals, where they will play against Cucuta Deportivo of Colombia, next week.
