Pezzotta impressed during the whole game because of his location: always near the actions, with an excellent "running" in the field, but without disturbing, and this is particularly easy to observe if you are in the stands. He was good when the Brazilians claimed a handball inside the Paraguayan area - it wasn´t handball at all - and when he sent off Lucas and Alcaraz after a skirmish where he looked really calm and in control. His booking policy was also correct. There were minor mistakes... but nothing really important.
Brazil deserved to win, because they showed a really good playing, but a brilliant Justo Villar prevented the Brazilians from playing another South American semi-final. Brazilian penalty shooters also helped Paraguay to get their surprising ticket.
After the Argentinian team defeat, and with Roberto Silvera from Uruguay out of the race, Pezzotta looks as one of the strongest candidates to get the final next Sunday. The other possible referees - Wilmar Roldán from Colombia, Enrique Osses from Chile and Salvio Fagundes from Brazil - are probably still too unexperienced to get it, and it would be more probable that two of them were given the semi-finals.
