The main decision of the whole match was certainly the penalty which was awarded correctly including a straight red card which can be given as well. But what happened then? Marta missed, Solo was celebrated as she kept the ball but Jacqui Melksham decided to repeat the penalty. Why? Because one American player passed the box line for about 20 cms. A harsh decision but a decision which was adequate with regard to Law 14 of FIFA laws of the game. After that there were two difficult decisions when American players fell in the opposite box. No penalty, both decisions were correct.
But after that, she fully lost control. Weird free kick decisions, she missed some yellows (e.g. for a handball), I was glad that she booked Erika for unfairness.
But we have to talk about both assistant referees again, the same as in the opening match. Allyson Flynn missed an obvious offside situation ahead the 2-1 of Brazil. Sarah Ho with many minor mistakes.
What I found good was that she booked Erika and Marta for stupid complaints and unfair actions. However, she missed to my mind a straight red card in the first half against the first American who was booked. Yellow was not enough from my point of view.
Although all these important decisions were good in general, she did not convince me. Some odd decisions, some kind of blindness every now and then, she was overcharged in many situations.
I think the supporters in Dresden were happy to see the Brazilians leave. If I remember right, the FIFA slogan will say "Fair Play". Perhaps the Brazilians, both, men and women, should read that and learn it by hard. It is good for the tournament that this unfair team goes home.
The match impressed me. Until the final whistle, it was full of suspense and as opponent of women football I have to admit that it was much better than some other matches in South Africa last year.
