Brazil 2 - 2 Paraguay
Copa America 2011 group stage · 2011-07-09 Referee: Wilmar Roldan

Complicated

About experience

Roldán is one of the most qualified referees in Colombia, and he surely has brilliant future. But he´s still a bit unexperienced. That is why, perhaps, in different momentos of the match he looked a bit overwhelmed by the intensity of the actions... It´s great when a referee tries to keep things under control just by warning, but if it´s not enough, you should start booking. Roldán decided to do it later than what was needed.

Red card for Jadson?

There was a controversial action. Just before the 1st Brazilian goal, Jadson - who had been correctly booked a minute before - cut a Paraguayan attack with a foul that could have been punished with another yellow. I´m sure that if he hadn´t been booked yet, he would have seen another card. Roldán decided no to book him, and Jadson scored a minute after. Every Paraguayans protested. Maybe, they were right.

And

Roldán was well helped by the assistants. He should have been more severe, and in other actions he was decidedly wrong, for example when he booked Pato for nothing. This one was not his best game, but he deserves another chance in this tournament.
