This plane will kill us someday

Kalusha

The plane was very old and badly maintained. The National team flew on it because the Zambian FA had no money for (or didn't want to spend it on) commercial tickets. Kalusha, then playing for PSV Eindhoven, was on the flight and remembered they had to wear life jackets. Someone on the plane said "this plane will kill us someday" and it did, spring next year, 1993. This team, the best team Zambia ever had, were on their way to Senegal. The plane exploded in the air and disappeared in the sea. Kalusha and some other team mates who played in Europe weren't on the plane this time.
A new National team was assembled and, against the odds, still did very well when they started competing later in the year.
