Austria 1 - 2 Germany
Euro 2012 qualifiers · 2011-06-03 Referee: Massimo Busacca

An unfair football evening... but a brave referee!

Yes, he was there...

Busacca was almost invisible during the whole match. He only gave 3 yellow cards, all oft hem were totally correct. Busacca let the game flow. He contributed to an exiciting football match. He only whistled 21 fouls. This shows the game went forth and back without a lot of interruptions. Nice to watch! Busacca only made minor mistakes (corner and throw-in situation), and AR 1 Manuel Navarro made one false offside-call in the second half. Apart from that, the whole team was excellent. Congratulation!

Busacca is back...

We remember: Busacca's last international game this season was the Barcelona - Arsenal clash. In that match, Busacca showed a controversial second yellow card to Van Persie. UEFA didn't give him another game im CL and EL quarter and semi finals. Now, UEFA gave him this top match. And he was the right choice. It was special that UEFA assigned a Swiss Referee to a match with an Austrian team. It is UEFA's policy not to assign swiss and austrian match officials to games with the respective teams. This is because swiss and austrian referees are in charge of matches in the top league of the other country.

Busacca at Euro 2012...

Busacca has refereed two matches in the EURO 2012 qualifying round: Scotland - Spain and Austria - Germany. In both games he showed again his qualities as one of Europe's Top referees. We will surely see him in Poland and Ukraine next year.
