Duisburg 0 - 5 Schalke 04
Cup Final · 2011-05-21 Referee: Wolfgang Stark

Schalke to play in Euro League

The Referees

Wolfgang Stark finally got a final. The DFB Cup final comes so late for him because in the past, Bavarian teams always participated so that he might not be appointed. Yesterday he was, together with his known two assistant referees Jan-Hendrik Salver and Mike Pickel. Peter Gagelmann was the 4th Official.

Stark's perfomance

What should one say when considering the result and amount of yellow cards? No problems, however, he was sometimes (as always) to lenient. In the second minute, he should have booked a Duisburg player after a brutal foul. The rest was ok, only one wrong offside flag by Salver, no problems in foul detection. It was a fair match, but a match with some embattled midfield duels which were mostly evaluated by Stark in an adequate way.

The match

As Schalke supporter, I am content and glad about the first title of my team for 9 years. As our rival Dortmund won the title in Bundesliga, we could manage to follow. But the objective spectator of course wants the outsider (Duisburg) to have a chance. They had it, but they did not use them. The first goal by one of the biggest talents in Germany, Julian Draxler, was amazing and Huntelaar's second goal broke the resistance of Duisburg. After that, it was more or less a practice match. 76.000 supporters in Berlin's Olympia stadium celebrated both teams and the greatest moment of the evening was - no doubt - the moment when Federal President Wulff handed out the cup over to Manuel Neuer. Raúl Gonzalez, he won almost everything with Real. But the domestic cup, for this title he had to come to Schalke.
