book!

first

At first Mejuto Gonzalez showed himself to be a lenient referee. Just kicking a player or pulling his shirt wasn't enough for the Spaniard to grab his whistle. It promised to be a good match with a good referee in charge. A guy who knew when to keep quiet.

but then

But then some fouls were more than just a foul, it appeared that Mejuto Gonzalez just wasn't bothered to book. And sometimes he just didn't seem to bother even to whistle. Didn't he see what happened? Or does he have a different opinion about refereeing? I counted at least 3 players who should have been booked. And when he finally did show his yello card, he booked Dutch midfielder Seedorf for nothing at all.

trust

When a player is on his way to the goal (passing an opponent because he is quicker and more agile) he has to be be able to trust the referee, to be sure of a certain protection. Anyone who attacks him from behind will get a booking or even be sent off. With Mejuto Gonzalez in charge most players get away with it, you can't really trust him.
