Grafe was lenient, up to the point that even the player who just had fouled looked at him in unbelieve: Really? You're letting me off? That happened a few times: players stopping, both fouler and foulee, waiting for the ref to whistle, which he didn't.
It worked well in this match, both teams played more or less fairly.
Ajax have a young team, is what we hear and read. Inexperienced and although very talented, they're not ready yet. But Ajax always have a young team, they're always talented and inexperienced. Every time an Ajax player reaches the age of 21, he gets sold to a bigger team (and you'll never hear of him again).
So this was a team of young inexperienced talents against one of mostly South-American hirelings. The hirelings only needed one shot to win, really: they only shot at the Ajax' goal once. The inexperienced talents spent 90 minutes shooting either wide or straight at the goalkeeper.
