Feyenoord 3 - 1 Wisla Krakow
UEFA Cup 2006 - 2007 group stage · 2006-12-13 Referee: Paolo Dondarini

Benefit of the doubt

Penalty?

Dondarini could have awarded a penalty kick here but... he didn't. It wasn't an absolutely clear foul though, so I guess we should give Dondarini the benefit of the doubt. Dudka eventually got what was coming to him when he was shown a flaming red card - no hesitation on the referee's part here - after a violent two-legged attack on Hofs.

The match

Most of the match showed old style English football: Physical, not hampered by too much technique or strategic thinking. In their best moments the Polish looked the more skillful, the Dutch team the more organized and 'patterned'. Feijenoord eventually wound this one up with a 3 - 1 win.

Through

Who would have thought it? Two weeks ago Feijenoord played a woeful match in Nancy and expected to be banned from international football for at least a year as a result of their fans misbehaving badly. Now they played a decent match and are through to the last 16 in the UEFA cup.
