It wasn't the same Dutch team of the World Cup but Nigel de Jong was there. This time however the world famous free fighting midfielder took it easy. Not so Elia. Eljero Elia (say his first name aloud and you'll know his mother's favorite singer) found it necessary to kick the San Marino goalie in the head.
Yes well, beating the San Marino team is not the issue, it is how you beat them and with how many goals. 5 is okay, 7 is better..
A bad match, bad players against good players who were irritated at the least. Why do they have to play here, what a waste of time... No referee will do well in a match like this. Some if these players were so bad you couldn't tell whether they made a foul or were just clumsy.
Many people have been arguing that countries like San Marino, Luxembourg, Far Oer (which isn't even a country) should be competing in a second league. Why go through the whole charade of having all countries compete when you can tell beforehand which teams won't ever make it?
On the other hand you could argue that this is a European thing and every nation should get a chance. It's an honour to have a big team visiting you. Right?
So where was the audience? A finalist of the World Cup is coming to your town, and no one shows up?
If there aren't even a few thousand people willing to come to watch their team being thrashed, then I am all for putting the small counties in a second League.
