- In 2009 Martin Vazquez took charge of the final of the u17 World Cup between Switzerland and Nigeria. It has been alleged (by, among others, former Nigerian international player and lawyer, Adokiye Amiesimaka) that not all Nigerian players were actually under 17. Amiesimaka revealed that Nigeria's under-17 captain, Fortune Chukwudi, must be at least 9 years older than 17.
- In 2005 Vázquez had to call off a Boca - Guadalajara Libertadores match at Boca's Bombonera stadium when a supporter began attacking a player, fans were hurling missiles onto the pitch and the teams started fighting amongst themselves.
- In 2008 Vázquez was suspended because of some bad decisions in a Peñarol versus Danubio match. He forgot to send off Darío Rodríguez after a clear foul and missed a clear penalty in the last minute. These kind of suspensions have some routine in South America. National associations please screaming big shot club owners and journalists by suspending referees for a while. This suspension seemed not to be a delay on Vazquez career, because he still was selected for the Olympic Games at Beijing 2008.
