OF WORLD CUP FAME

  • Chong also took charge of matches in the J League in 2000.
  • Lim kee Chong was suspended by CAF after the World Cup finals in 1998. With his iron grip on African referees, CAF vice-president Farah Addo was the key man in the discission to suspend Lim kee Chong.
    source: news.bbc.co.uk.
In fact being suspended by Farah Addo must be a good thing, considering the former CAF president's history as an embezzler and what-not.
  • Clemens Westerhof, the former coach of the Nigerian national team, told Dutch journalist Edwin Schoon that Lim Kee Chong received a nice watch from the Nigerian minister of sports. Westerhof saw him wearing it after their final round match against Algeria in Algiers in 1993. Whether the referee got the match before or after the match he doesn't say.
In the same interview the flamboyant Dutchman says that in his day all referees of their home matches were bribed by Nigerian officials.
