BEST

  • After receiving the golden whistle in 2008 Duong Van Hien stated that this title was more meaningful than the one from 2007, because this reward came in a sensitive moment in Vietnamese football which was trying to recover from a match fixing scandal.
  • In september 2008 the National Referee Council and the Vietnam Football Federation, submitted a report about Van Hiens attendance at the gambling game at HCM City. HCM City police could not find sufficient evidence to determine that referee Duong Van Hien was in fact gambling. This conclusion made Van Hien still eligible to be nominated for the Best referee of Vietnam in 2008.
