LATE STARTER
- In the 2006 World Cup finals second round match between the Netherlands and Portugal, Ivanov showed sixteen yellow and four red cards. After Ivanov was sent home, FIFA's president Blatter stated in an interview that the Russian ref should have been shown a yellow card himself.
- After the Russian Cup match between FC Anzhi Makhackala and FC Rostov, in June 2003, Ivanov was suspended for leaving the pitch to watch a video replay of a disputed goal to ensure he made the right decision. He first awarded a goal to Rostov and then disallowed it. He was banned for two months.
Ivanov denied the charges at first, but a front-page photo in Russia's leading sports daily, Sport-Express, on the following day clearly showed him looking into a video camera. He had the time to watch a video because the match was stopped for more than 20 minutes due to a fight between the two teams. - His second suspension was the result of two bad calls that contributed to a CSKA Moscow win over Spartak Moscow in a Premier League match. (this according to a Iranian sport paper)
- Ivanov's father was a great striker for the Soviet Union and became an Olympic and European champion. Ivanov's father was joined top scorer with three other players, including Brazil's Garrincha, at the 1962 World Cup in Chile.
- Ivanov was a lines man at the 1993 youth World Cup, this is a picture for that tournament.
