Valdemar Lausen was a well known midfilelder before he became a journalist and referee. He played for KB and for the Danish national team winning him a total of 44 caps, a record at the time. He first represented his country in 1918 and played his final match for the national team in 1934.

journalist

Valdemar started as a journalist for the Danish newspaper Politiken in 1939 and worked there for quite a few years. From as early as 1930 he published 'yearbooks' about Danish football together with the Danish Football Association (DBU). He has another book to his name 'Tre fra landsholdet' ('three from the national team'), something he wrote together with Harry Bendixen and Poul Jensen.

48

It seems he didn't do many international matches, and most of the ones he did officiate were friendlies which makes sense given the fact that he picked up the whistle rather late in life and not so long before WWII started. The latter fact didn't make him stop refereeing altogether though. In fact, during the war he led two matches between Sweden and Germany. One in 1941 in Stockholm (4 - 2) and one in 1942 in Berlin (2 - 3). After the war he made an appearance at the 1948 Olympics. He was 48 at the time.

  • In 1936 Jean Gauguin made a sculpture of him and fellow record holder Fritz Tarp of B93. Both had made 44 international appearances. The statue found a place somewhere near Aarhus Stadium.
