  • When Kamdem canceled a goal by Zaire in a 1972 match against Togo, the home crowd was that angry that the ref had to hide in the stadium until everyone was gone, which took a long time. When the next day he was invited by Zaire president Mobutu, it was expected his head would be chopped off (or he was going to be fed to the royal alligators) instead Mobutu praised him for his courage and gave him a cane and several million Zairean whatever-they-had-in-those-days.
