RED AND YELLOW
- Rattin, the Argentinian who was sent off in the Worldr Cup against England in 1966 thinks it was all a conspiracy against his team. He cursed at Kreitlein, he says, but he did so in Spanish to a ref who spoke no Spanish at all. So the German could never have known what he said. Rattin refused to leave, he sat down on the red carpet meant for the queen and had to be dragged off. While being taken off the field he grabbed a Brittish flag and crumpled it.
Rattin in another interview in 2009 said he was glad Kreitlein had died. He was very wrong about that. In 2010 Rudolf Kreitlein was alive and kicking. - This is from a German news article so it may be apocryphal: After Kreitlein's group stage match in the 1966 World Cup, FIFA boss Stanley Rous said he had seen the referee of the coming final. But then of course, Germany reached the final, so it was out of the question.
- When he turned 90 in 2009, Rudolf Kreitlein sold his house in Stuttgart and moved to Turkey. But in 2010 he was spotted in the town of Giebel near Stuttgart.
- More hearsay: It was alleged that Kreitlein offered Partizan to help them win the European Cup final against Real Madrid for 15.000 dollar.
This is very probably not true and there were many more rumours around this match.
