NAME
- In an attempt to force abandonment of the macht the Tunisian international goalkeeper Chokri El Ouaer faked a serious injury. Fans running amok and throwing things on the field caused a 18 minute stoppage in the second leg of the African Champions' League final between Ghana's Hearts of Oak and Esperance of Tunisia in Accra in 2000. During that break the goalie appeared to cut himself on the head with a sharp object. He then ran from his goal area to the halfway line with blood streaming from his face.
Esperance, who were leading 1 - 0 before the stoppage, 15 minutes from full-time, went on to lose 3-1 to Hearts for a 5-2 aggregate defeat. The Tunisians claimed El Ouaer had been struck by a projectile and their team had been affected by the lengthy stoppage.
However, the referee Robin Williams and one of his assistants, confirmed that they had seen the player inflict the cut on himself. The incident was also reportedly seen by officials and journalists. El Ouaer was substituted.
