WORLD CUP
- The 1978 World Cup, Argentina was not doing well and needed to win against Peru with at least 4 goals. The Argentina government wasn't doing well either: the whole world seemed to have turned against the Generals. The Generals thought they needed the national team to win to keep the people quiet.
The Peruvian government consisted of Generals as well and Carlos Lacoste, organizer of the World Cup and then vice-president of FIFA, spoke to them.
35.000 tons of grain and probably arms were shipped to Peru and the Argentinian Central Bank unfrooze 50 million dollars of credit.
Argentina won 6 - 0, there's nothing the referee could do about it, and went on to beat the Dutch team in the final.
Simon Kuper: Football against the enemy - There was a fan site about Robert Wurtz, but it was gone in 2009.
- Robert Wurtz has suffered a stroke, but seems to be ok.
- Wurtz' nickname was Nijinski, because of his balletesque gestures. He was also known for his speed. He has a science degree and used to judge in a tv program called "Intervilles" (more ex-referees seem to do this, see also Walter Eschweiler).
