Paolo Casarin was a referee in the 1982 World Cup and in the 1988 European Championship.

FIFA

Later on Casarin became president of the Italian referee committee and member of FIFA's referee committee. He was sent home by Havelange who didn't agree with Casarin's choice of Sandor Puhl for the 1994 final between Brazil and Italy. Brazil lost (shoot-out) and the FIFA boss blamed Casarin.
