Nicolae Rainea was the best ever Romanian referee and one of the best European officials in the 70s and 80s. He refereed at three FIFA World Cups (1974, 1978, 1982), the Euro 1980 Final and the 1983 European Champions Cup Final. Rainea is currently a honorary member of the Romanian Referees Committee.
