- In 2006, when Australia changed federations to play against Asian teams, the Soccaroos had problems believing the neutrality of Arabic referees. After a match against Bahrain in Sydney, Mark Schwarzer and Brett Emerton asked world soccer officials to take action against Bahrain's time-wasting tactics.
The Aussies lodged an informal complaint about the appointment of Fareed Ali Mohamed Al Marzouqi.
Al Marzouqi had tolerated Bahrain's diving and theatrics without punishment and his 4th official spent some time in the opposition dressing room at half-time.
Schwarzer said: "I'm not suggesting anything went on, but when you see the medical staff on the bench talk to them and at one stage give them a kiss on the forehead . . ."
