- Mike Reed was once reprimanded for one match for "celebrating" a goal by Liverpool in a match against Leeds in 2000. Reed stated he made a gesture because he had decided to play advantage which led to a goal. Reed was taken off high profile matches and quit.
- Mike Reed did not use standard issue cards, but made his own with paper stuck on the back to write on. The coin he used was a commemorative 100 escudo coin he picked up in Portugal.
- It was either Stephen Lodge or Mike Reed who took charge of a 1994 friendly between Canada and Netherlands. Both refs were in Canada at the time doing friendlies.
