KLAAS SCHIPPER
- In 1959, in the town of Groningen, in a sold out Oosterpark stadium, Feyenoord and FC Santos played a farewell match for referee Klaas Schipper. FC Santos won 3-0. Although it was a friendly match and many substitutions were allowed, referee Schipper forbade Pele - the one most of the audience had come to see play - to leave the field.
- From 1954 till his death, Klaas Schipper rented a tobacco shop in the Nieuwe Ebbingestraat in Groningen. In those days many players did the same after their football careers.
- Neither Egypt, The Sudan nor Syria wanted to play Israel in the qualifiers for the 1958 World Cup. Israel - from then on added to the European groups - thus won their every match. Because they hadn't played at all, FIFA decided they had to take on the best of the rest from Europe: Wales. The match was played in 1958 and Wales won. Twice.
