Cuba - Haiti
This is copied from a piece by Barrie Courtney (cantab.net)
At the point of Cuba scoring, a soldier in the crowd fell to the floor
and his gun went off, killing a spectator. In the ensuing panic, five
other spectators fell to their deaths from the stands. Whilst all this was
occurring, the game surprisingly continued and Haiti equalized. At 85'
Cuba scored again but, although firstly awarding the goal, the referee
disallowed it after the Haitian protest, from players and supporters alike.
As a footnote, the dead body of the soldier was found later outside the
stadium, with an official verdict of suicide.
