- No idea how seriously we have to take the bloggers and web-historians, but fact is Etzel Filho's name often appears together with the words ladrão (thief) and fixing. His reputation is not good, for what it's worth.
- His World Cup match was a exceptional one. The Soviet Union scored three goals in three minutes, then Colombia made 3-1 and in the second half the Soviets finished it off 4-1. You'd think, but suddenly Colombia scored one straight from a corner kick (a so-called "olympic goal", the only ever in a World Cup finals and they went on ending the match in a 4-4 draw.
- The site www.museudosesportes.com.br has a story from a 1963 newspaper about a Spanish referee officiating at the time in Brazil who received 30 million Cruzeiros from Etzel Filho to fix a match. The Spaniard gave half back to Etzel Filho and the other half to charity.
