CAN
- The can (see his Bio), now in the Vitesse museum, prompted a man named Jan Stellenburg to invent the PET-bottle. Thinking he had to come up with a bottle that - when thrown - could not hurt anyone, but was still strong enough for carbonized drinks.
- During the war playing (and watching) football was often one of the few recreational things to do. For one important match Dorpmans and his team mates had the Germans temporary free from prison a quick left-winger called Bertus De Kat Angelino to play with them. It's a story Dorpmans likes to tell, but he can't remember why the winger was in jail.
- It was from the Vitesse field in 1944 that Jef Dorpmans saw the Allied planes dropping parachutists for the battle of Arnhem (when they went 'a bridge too far'). During the heavy fighting in and around Arnhen most people fled. Dorpmans and his parents walked to another town.
