- James Torrans was the referee of the replayed match England - Scotland in 1902 and perhaps also the ref in the original one played at the Ibrox in Glagow, April 5, 1902, when part of the terracing gave way. 25 died and more that 500 were injured. According to a contemporary report there were too many people on the terrace and they were swaying and jumping. The joints of the wooden structure gave way and the terrace collapsed. The builder was prosecuted and acquitted.
