A former hardware shop owner and FIFA referee for perhaps a few years but after his retirement, Bhamjee became a very important person in football, known for his stand for the presidency of CAF in 2004, for being a member of FIFA's executive committee and for being kicked off FIFA's executive committee.
He was president of the Botswana FA, president of Cosafa, FIFA executive. Bhamjee also helped the South African FA getting their act back together after the apartheid boycott.
"There is a lot of work to be done to put African football back on the right track and I am privileged and honoured to be able to put forward my name to lead the organisation in this new century," he said in 2003
In 2006 in Germany, Bhamjee was caught selling 100 Euro tickets to the World Cup match England - T&T for 300 Euro. Tickets he was allowed to buy as committee member. The tickets are meant for family or friends, instead he sold 12 tickets to England fans in an Indian restaurant in Frankfurt.
Bhamjee was sent home and kicked off the FIFA executive committee. For trying to make a few hundred bucks he lost his 60.000 Euro plus expenses a year job.
Probably FIFA were glad to get rid of him since he didn't vote for South Africa to get the 2010 World Cup and tried to oust Issa Hayatou, the CAF president.
Sill a FIFA official in 2010 he was banned for having been implicated in the cash for votes scandal. Votes to get the World Cup.
