Farouk Bouzo took charge of one match in the 1978 World Cup. After his retirement Bouzo became National Referee Coordinator and later on chairman of the AFC referees committee.
Farouk may be the only referee to get a 10 out of 10 from an assessor after a World Cup match.
- Farouk "General" Bouzo was AFC referee committee chairman for more than two decades. Now (2010) he holds honorary titles.
- Bouzo prides himself of being one of the team who recommended the back-pass rule, the rule that forbids a player to pass the ball back (by foot) to his own goalkeeper.
- The Syrian was also active in changing the way referees were trained for big tournaments, introducing for instance reaction tests.
