Estela Alvarez was the first woman to referee in a Superior Tournament in Argentina. She is a very strict referee. She wants to be like Héctor Baldassi one day (off course in the way he whistle). She is selected for the women World Cup in Germany 2011.
What she likes of refereeing is to travel. In an interview she said he had "discovered" her country and other ones and cultures.
What she dislikes is the way players argue when she makes a mistake. She prefers they to say: "Estella was wrong" and not "Women are there for cleaning dishes" or "women can´t referee men matches"
His Brother is a football player Baldomero Alvarez and friend of the president of the AFA Julio Grondona. but for her that is not the reason why she referees men matches.
- In a match between Lipolleti and Estudiantes de Rio she gave 4 penalties. The match was suspended after her assistant was injured by a group of violent spectators
- For her a foul is the same like a small foul, that's why she gives so much penalties, she says.
