Erwin Hieger started his refereeing career in Austria, where he led two matches of the Austrian National League in 1955 before he emigrated to South America where he became a professional referee from Peru. He took charge of matches at the 1968 Olympic Tournament as a Peruvian (FIFA) and the Copa America as an Austrian (CONMEBOL).

FIFA career

Hieger was listed by FIFA as a ref from Peru from 1959 until 1973. We didn't find Hieger as a FIFA ref for Austria, but the newspapers of that time did have him as an Austrian.
