Edward Bellion is not a normal person. Born and raised in Liverpool, he moved to Texas in 1970. He not only played football, but coached and became a referee after he arrived in th US. He took charge of the US Open Cup Final and the American Soccer League Final. He was a FIFA referee between 1980 and 1990 and officiated at the 1984 Olympics. After his retirement he was a referee instructor, he held clinics for referees, he is a referee assessor and he coached. And, oh yes, he is also a biochemistry professor.


His research interests lie in the biochemistry of growth of microorganisms in which he has authored over 30 scientific articles in national and international professional journals, and has lectured on his work at various International Scientific Symposia in Europe, Asia and North America.

Bellion co-wrote at least two book on refereeing: The art of refereeing (with Collina on the cover) and For the good of the game

Professional League (1977-87), International (1980-89) and NCAA (1975-2007) Soccer Referee (now semi-retired)

Instructor of Advanced Referees for United States Soccer Federation. (1987-present)

Member, Board of Directors, Winnsboro Fishing Club, Lake Franklin, Texas (1996-98).
