In the spring, after the match fixing scandal erupted in Romania, the Romanian Football Federation fired the former president of the Referees Committee, Gheorghe Constantin, and named Ioan Igna as an acting president until the end of the 2008-2009 championship. Aron Huzu took over in June 2009 and started to reform the system. Two months later he resigned in protest because the Romanian Football Federation decided to bring in referees from abroad for the important first division matches.
