Ali Aydin used to be really heavy, when his friends advised him to do something about it he took a referee course. What started as a hobby became more serious when he was asked for important matches, internationally though he took charge of only a hand full of qualifiers.
You never know what is true and who has been paid by whom in Turkish football, but there are a few matches that sty in everybody's mind. There was the match Galatasaray against Besiktas in 2005 wwhen Aydin awarded two dubious penalties, causing many complaints. Aydin, a bit of a glutton, who had started to get heavier again quit.
- Ali Aydin once booked a player twice without sending him off. In 2004 in a Turkish match Fenerbahce - Rizespor, the player was Gustavo Victori. The match was replayed (and Fenerbahce won 4-0).
Aydin claimed later he couldn't read the numbers (of the players) in his note book because it got wet in the rain.
