And what went on between Riley and Van Persie? Do they know each other from the English Premier League? Do they have a history together?

General assessment
Riley tried to conrol the match too much. He should have given the players a little bit more trust... or be absolutely strict and correct. All together I just think he didn't showed enough power.

why?

UEFA EURO 2008 QUALIFIERS :
Albania - Netherlands, 0 - 1. Qemal Stafa, Tirana, Albania, 2007-09-12

People here in Albania ask why their team's goal in the first half was canceled by referee Mike Riley. Was he bought? Did he get paid by the rich Dutch? Not a surprising question in a country were corruption is a way of life. I have a question as well: why did Mario Melchiot, the tall Dutch defender, use all his powers and perfect timing to jump over everybody else for a fantastic header in his own goal? How much did he get paid?

well
I guess referee Riley saw someone push or get pushed and whistled before Melchiot scored. But was he right? Why did the English ref whistle so often? Aren't the English supposed to like a little rough play? Was he nervous? Riley seemed to whistle for every little thing, even when he could have given the advantage.
He was right with the cards though, the yellows and the red.

match
Me and my friends were not checked at all at the stadium. No wonder Melchiot (he again) almost got hit by a fire cracker. It was not a very exciting match, the Albanias were a little bit better in the first half, but The Netherlands won by a goal in the 91st minute. By Dutch striker Van Nistleroj as he was called in a paper here in Tirana (apparantly the Dutch also have a player called Shjnejdar and one called Sederof).
