bio
Jose Macias started playing football in 1925 for the team of Banfield in the (then) 5th division. But playing wasn't his thing and he became a referee instead and already three years later in 1928 he took charge of a match in the first division. Between 1928 and 1949, when he retired he took charge of more than 400 matches, and he holds the record for the most clásicos: 11.
After his retirement he became director of a referee college and a sports writer.
Macias died of a stroke during a dinner with football VIPs in 1966.
