Dimitar Dimitrov took charge internationally of a hand full of qualifiers until the end of 2006. He was suspended for life in 2007 by the Bulgarian football federation for "making too much mistakes" on the field. But.

But
August 25 2008, Dimitar Dimitrov and three other former referees (Momchil Vraikov, Krassimir Yosifov and Hristo Ristoskov) announced at a news conference that during their stint as referees, pressure had been applied by Bulgarian Football Union officials to fix matches. According to the four they had been banned by Borislav Alexandrov, head of BFU, because of their refusal to do so. Ristokov even had proof, phone and video tapes of dealings between Alexandrov and Ivan Lekov, a former football referee and current deputy head of the State Agency for Sports and Youth (SASY). Levkov was arrested September 2009.
