Genov started his referee career in 1991, he became active in the first league in 1996 and was rewarded a Fifa badge in 1999. He went from Premier Referee back to Category 2 at the start of season 2010-2011 and then back to the 3rd (which name changed to the 2nd!) category in 2011, his last year as a (suspended or not) FIFA referee.

investigations
So what was Anton Genov's role in the friendly Macedonia - Canada, November 2009? There were some high bets placed on Macedonia winning with 3 or 4 goals difference, a not very likely outcome, still they won 3-0. There were also bets on the amount of penalties awarded - how obvious can that be? - and Genov awarded 4. Two to each team. (You could argue that those two kinds of bets serve opposite outcomes and how big are the odds that the Canadians would miss twice?)
The newly installed Bulgarian referee committee (the last one was sacked in December for taking part in match fixing) started investigating Genov and UEFA immediately suspended him. But then in February 2010 UEFA stated that no actions were taken against Genov pending the investigations.
