Peter O'Leary, who is head of the biology section in a high school, thanks his boss he is allowed time to be able to also persue his career in refereeing. He must do a lot of flying since he not only takes charge of matches in New-Zealand, but also in Australia.

In September 2008 Peter O'Leary was watching the English Premier League match Aston Villa - Sunderland as a guest of Steve Bennett who was the 4th referee. Suddenly he heard his name being called on the public speakers. As an assistant referee got injured, Bennett had to replace him. O'Leary was asked to fill in the place of the 4th referee, which made him the first ever New Zealander to act in the Premier League..
