One of the very few referees who changed countries while officiating for FIFA, Manfred Rössner started his career as a referee from the DDR (GDR) and ended it as a German.
Manfred Rössner died in 2008.

career
DDR Oberliga referee from 1974 till October 1990 when his country seized to exist. He then must have continued refereeing for two more months, since he took charge of a Euro 1992 qualifier in December 1990.
Manfred Roßner was active as an assistant ref in the 1988 European Championships.

The Germans have officially abolished the "ß" so now his name is spelled Rössner.
