Weyland

Tall (1.92) and rather heavy, Hans Joachim Weyland is often described as a giant. He took charge of a match in the 1974 World Cup finals in his own country and of the (unofficial) 1972 Super Cup. Weyland died in 2001.

Weyland was a not very good player who saw refereeing as a way to keep being involved in football. His first ever match was in 1958, quickly he went through all the stages to become a Bundesliga ref in 1963 and a FIFA ref three years later.
In all there were 104 first Bundesliga matches and 120 international ones.
