Alfred Wieser was one of the candidates of the World Championships 1994 in the USA. Although he was not selected for the World Cup, he was and still is a popular person and is known as being cooperative.

1979
In the summer of 1979, Mr. Wieser became a referee in the so-called Kärntner Landesliga (League of the province Carinthia, the highest League of Carinthia). On September 2nd, 1981, Alfred Wieser had his big debut in Austrian national football when he was chosen as referee in the Austrian Cup match, Sturm Graz vs Wiener Neustadt (4-0). A few days later, on September 5th, he was nominated as referee of a match in the 2nd division, Kapfenberg vs Raika Wels (0-1). His first match in the 1st division was on September 17th, 1982: VOEST Linz vs First Vienna FC (3-1).

Probably Alfred's first real international match was the qualifyer for the World-Championships 1994, on August 26th, 1992, in group 3 in Riga (Latvia): Latvia vs Denmark (0-0). More info about Wieser's internationals, see his palmares.
