Jef Dorpmans played forward for Vitesse Arnhem from when he was 16 in 1941.
After the war he resumed his football career but had to quit in 1951, no longer good enough. He started refereeing and became a well known international ref from around 1968 until 1971.

His most famous match was a 1971 European Cup Winners Cup match between Borussia and Inter, won by Borussia 7-1. But when Inter forward Boninsegna got hit by a Coca Cola can and was carried off the field, the match was abandoned. Whether Bonesegna was really hit on the head and whether he was really wounded is still disputed by some. Dorpmans said he didn't see it happen. Inter actually won the second leg 4-2, and the replay of the match in Gemany ended in 0-0. Which makes you think.
