Once an international referee and later a referee inspector and chairman of the JFF Referees Commission, Ken Chaplin is now an influential Jamaican journalist and writer.

In his column for the Jamaica Observer he writes about a wide range of subjects. Politics, police, gay rights, reggea (well, who wouldn't, in Jamaica), tourism, the economy and occasionally: football.
One book he wrote was a biography of the cricket player Collie Smith called The Happy Warrior.
