Miroslav Stupar, born in the a former Soviet Union, is mostly remembered for his officiating of the 1982 World Cup match in Spain between France and Kuwait.

Sheikh
In this match Stupar disallowed five goals by France mostly because there was a touch of offside about them, except for one goal.
The one disallowed goal that made Stupar (in)famous was protested by the Kuwaiti players. They had stopped playing because they had heard a whistle from the crowd and thought it was the referee blowing. The protest continued for 15 minutes, at one stage Kuwait's players were going to walk off the field. It was the president of the Kuwait FA, Sheikh al-Sabah, who climbed down from his VIP box into the field and talked them down to continue to play.
