There are 2 sides to Tullio Lanese. One is the international referee who officiated 3 matches in the 1990 World Cup and a semi-final in the 1992 European Championships. The other is the politician and president of the AIA (Italian referee association) who had to step down in favour of Pierluigi Collina and who was suspended for 2,5 years following the calciopoli scandal. (see more below)

definite
Calciopoli is a hard nut to crack, at first we had to believe Juventus and "Lucky" Luciano Moggi were the bad guys, but slowly we are learning that there is more to it. A conspiracy of Milan and Inter backers for instance. In a country were everything is intertwined, the weirdest of conspiracy theories can turn out to be true. All though true can never be the right word here, of course.

politics
Sicilian born Lanese took charge of 38 matches as an international referee between 1985 and the end of 1992. Among them were the 1991 Cup winners Cup final and a match at the 1988 Olympic Games.
In 2008 he stood as candidate for he UDC in Sicily, but lost.
Tullio Lanese has his own website.

2009
Tullio Lanese's web site is gone, and the man himself got a 2 year jail sentence in December 2009. He is unlikely to serve his sentence though, because of the appeals process and a broad pardon for non-violent offenses committed before 2006.
