In May 2004 Fifa referees Mathebela (aka Mathabela on many sites), Simon Motau and Ronnie Marhule were all arrested as part of the investigation codenamed 'Operation Dribble', which looked into match-fixing in South Africa's premier league and first division. FIFA immediatly suspended Mathabele who was scheduled to take charge of a 2006 World Cup preliminary match.
World Cup
By then Mathebela already had had quit an international career. For instance he officiated three matches in the 1995 Women's World Cup in Sweden.
