Mexican Italian

A Chilean-Italian referee who officiated at the 1970 World Cup as a Mexican. Born in the tiny town of Zenson di Piave (pop. 1700 something) in the Veneto region, Diego Pedro Luis Carpani De Leo took charge of more than 1500 matches in Italy, but he really made his name after he moved to Mexico.

schools
Diego de Leo, who now seems to live in Italy again (you see him here showing us viewers his house and souvenirs), has set up refereeing schools all around Latin-America.

countries
FIFA lists him first in 1960 as as a referee from Chile. He'd already taken charge of international matches by then. It's hard to make sense of it all.
